CLARENCE TRADING COMPANY
Over 60 years ago Peter Bullen moved to South Wales from Cambridgeshire as the first representative for the Marley Roofing and Flooring Company in Wales. Within a few years, and with a young but growing, family Peter Bullen formed the Clarence Trading Company. This company grew into the most respected business of its kind.
R.J. BULLEN ROOFING CENTRE
Carrying on from this Peter’s son Richard started R. J. Bullen Roofing Centre, where once again knowledge, attention to detail and great professionalism set the bench marks for the industry. The business was one of the first of its kind. In fact, not only did Richard Bullen change the landscape of the roofing industry, he changed the landscape of Pontypool itself, by turning a former scrap yard and eyesore into one of the most recognised buildings in South Wales. Richard’s wife Eileen and all three children were an integral part to making this business such a success. So much so that in 2006 R.J. Bullen roofing Centre was bought by Robert Price Builders Merchant
BULLEN TRADING CO.
Bullen Trading Co has been established in Crumlin since 2009 and has grown steadily into what it is today. Our director (and Richards youngest son) Chris has been instrumental to our success. Chris holds a master’s degree in engineering and has been in the flooring industry since 2002. He is readily acknowledged as one of the leading experts in the flooring market in South Wales and beyond. Struggling to get your around the requirements of your project? Well don’t worry too much, from design ideas to pointing you in the direction of a local recommended tradesman, Chris is always on hand, armed with a bucket load of inspiration, to help you all the way.
Bullen Trading Co. has been built from the ground up by constant re-investment. Our showroom didn’t always look as amazing as it does today. In fact, when we first arrived at the property in 2009 it looked like this;
After a few months of blood, sweat and tears we finally resembled something that remotely looked like a shop. At the time we relied heavily on suppliers to help us with displays and products to sell. The suppliers that helped us then are still very prominent in our shop today.
In late 2012 we decided to invest in a brand new suspended ceiling for our showroom. Instantly we changed from a heavy industrial flooring warehouse to a much more friendly, warmer and certainly cleaner environment for customers to pick and choose their products from.
2015 saw the biggest change in Bullen Trading Co’s short history as we expanded both side wards and downwards! The closing of Viaduct Builders Merchant below us allowed us to utilise the ground floor of our building for warehousing, storage and workshops. While the showroom was almost doubled in size upstairs.
